U.S. Reacts to European Allegations of Russian Involvement in Navalny's Death
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio deemed disturbing the recent European report accusing Russia of using a rare toxin to kill Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. While no U.S. endorsement was given, Rubio expressed no disagreement with the report. Russia dismissed the claims as propaganda.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described as 'troubling' a report from five European allies accusing Russia of assassinating Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny with a toxin derived from poison dart frogs.
During a news conference in Slovakia, Rubio said, 'We're aware of that case of Mr. Navalny and certainly have no reason to question the report.' This report, supported by Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, revealed analyses of Navalny's samples confirmed the presence of epibatidine, a South American toxin, implying Russian involvement.
While Russia dismissed the allegations as 'Western propaganda,' Rubio noted that the coordination among the European nations did not imply disagreement from the U.S., stating, 'We're not disputing or getting into a fight with these countries over it.'
