In a significant crackdown, law enforcement authorities on Sunday confiscated properties worth approximately Rs 3.5 crore believed to have been acquired through the sale of codeine-based cough syrup, officials reported.

The operation was executed by a collaborative team from the Mughalsarai police station and the Crime Branch, under the supervision of Circle Officer Arun Kumar Singh. This move is part of an ongoing investigation by the Uttar Pradesh Police into an illicit network funneling highly regulated codeine-laden cough syrups throughout the state.

Key suspect Swapnil, hailing from Krishna Nagar in the Mughalsarai area, is already behind bars with multiple cases registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Investigations unveiled that the accused and his family invested profits from the illegal trade into acquiring various properties. On February 11, six properties in Bechhupur and Harishankarpur were seized by authorities, including residential lands worth crores.
