The unprecedented return of millions of Afghans from Pakistan and Iran is thrusting Afghanistan into a crisis, as indicated by the UN refugee agency on Friday.
Since October 2023, a staggering 5.4 million individuals have made their way back, predominantly from these two neighbors, according to the UNHCR representative Arafat Jamal during a UN briefing.
The massive influx of returnees is overwhelming a nation already tense from economic challenges, humanitarian issues, and human rights concerns, particularly regarding women and girls.
