Two men, allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of a civilian and an on-duty police officer three years ago, have been apprehended, a senior police officer announced on Wednesday. Identified as Lusku Mardi alias Rohit Mardi, 32, and Ganesh Murmu, 30, both from Seraikela-Kharswan district, managed to evade arrest for years by frequently relocating, according to SP (City) Kumar Sivashish.

Other suspects tied to the case had previously been captured and imprisoned. Following directives from the Senior Superintendent of Police (East Singhbhum), Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ-1) Bhola Prasad Singh led a special task force to capture the elusive defendants, the SP reported. Acting on a tip-off, the task force, under the leadership of Mango police station officer-in-charge Nityanand Prasad, conducted a raid and detained the pair on Tuesday.

They were subsequently brought before a court and placed in judicial custody. The December 8, 2023 FIR describes how the suspects had murdered Sajjad Khan alias Tanda and then shot at constable Mahato during their escape, killing him immediately, as he pursued them along with Tiger Mobile police member Nirmal Mundu.
