These men launched the deadliest assault of the year in the region on Tuesday, prompting villagers to flee into bushland amid chaos.
In addition to the loss of life, the attackers set fire to homes and shops, leaving a trail of destruction. Ahmed, present on the scene with military personnel, reported ongoing efforts to recover bodies and locate survivors.
Kwara authorities have mobilized police and military forces for search-and-rescue operations. Speculation remains about the attackers' motives, with some residents labeling them as jihadists advocating for Sharia. The Nigerian government is under international pressure to bolster security measures.
