In a significant legal development, a Kolkata court has granted bail to Sheikh Nasimuddin, the waiter embroiled in a controversy at the renowned Olypub restaurant. Nasimuddin faced arrest after serving beef instead of mutton to a customer, allegedly offending religious sentiments.
During virtual court proceedings, the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kolkata agreed to the bail petition submitted by Nasimuddin's lawyer, despite prosecution objections. Nasimuddin has been held since the arrest, which followed a viral video posted by content creator Sayak Chakraborty that sparked widespread controversy.
Olypub, an establishment with an 80-year legacy, issued a public apology, terming the incident a 'genuine mistake.' The restaurant reaffirmed its commitment to upholding respect and dignity for all patrons, regardless of their background.
