Bribes, Power, and Corruption: Engineer Arrested in Odisha

A junior engineer from a power distribution firm in Odisha has been apprehended by the vigilance department for allegedly accepting a bribe. The suspect was caught red-handed while taking Rs 20,000 from a brick factory owner in Malkangiri district, according to an official statement.
The bribery involved promising an electricity connection to the brick factory in exchange for the illegal payment. Officers were able to seize the bribe money during the operation and have registered a legal case against the involved parties under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The case has been lodged at the Koraput vigilance police station. A preliminary probe revealed the engineer's promise to facilitate the electricity connection in return for monetary gain.
