The Himachal Pradesh High Court has granted bail to Assistant Sub-Inspector Pankaj Sharma, accused of tampering with evidence crucial to the investigation of Vimal Negi's death, a former chief engineer with the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. The case has drawn significant attention due to its sensitive nature.
Negi went missing on March 10 and was later discovered dead in Bilaspur district on March 18. Sharma was notably the first individual to come across a pen drive and other documents belonging to Negi, which formed the crux of the investigation into the engineer's mysterious death.
The decision came after intense deliberations by Justice Virender Singh, who ultimately sided with Sharma's plea for bail. Despite the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) advocating for Sharma's continued custody, citing the need for further investigation, the court concluded that Sharma had sufficiently complied and provided necessary information.
