Odisha Braces for Cyclone Montha: State on High Alert as Preparations Intensify
Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced extensive preparations for cyclone Montha, establishing over 2,000 relief centers and mobilizing 153 rescue teams. The state aims for 'Zero Casualty' by evacuating residents from vulnerable areas. Coastal tourist destinations are restricted, and schools are closed due to expected severe weather.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared the state ready to handle the challenges of cyclone Montha, opening more than 2,000 disaster relief centers across eight vulnerable districts. Around 11,396 residents have already moved to these centers as authorities prepare for the cyclone's impact.
Following a high-level review attended by senior officials, Majhi identified critical areas in the state, emphasizing the need for rapid evacuation from low-lying and hilly regions. To ensure zero casualties, the government continues relocating residents, including pregnant women, to safer locations with support from specialized rescue teams.
With heavy rainfall and strong winds expected, Majhi has enforced entry restrictions to popular tourist spots and closures of educational facilities in affected districts. Although prepared to manage independently, Odisha welcomes potential central assistance. Transportation has also been disrupted, with ECOR modifying train schedules to safeguard passengers.
