The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a public interest litigation urging for a national vehicle star-rating system aimed at fostering eco-friendly vehicle choices to fight air pollution.

Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran emphasized that the matter is within the executive's policymaking purview during a hearing with petitioner Sanjay Kulshresthra.

Kulshresthra noted that several developed countries have similar systems and stressed the public health benefits tied to reduced vehicular emissions.
