The Delhi High Court has reiterated the importance of police officers treating women with dignity and avoiding the use of inappropriate language. Justice Sanjeev Narula remarked that creating guidelines for respectful conduct towards women by the police was unnecessary, as these expectations are already clear.
The petition was filed by Thoppani Sanjeev Rao, who sought the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) regarding alleged police misconduct. The court noted that the NHRC has the authority to independently investigate and take action on such complaints.
In its recent order, the court stated that the petitioner could approach the NHRC if the directives are not followed, invoking the commission's jurisdiction to ensure necessary measures are implemented.
