The Indian Navy is poised to enhance its maritime capabilities with the commissioning of the survey vessel Ikshak, set to take place at the Naval Base on November 6. The ceremony will be overseen by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, marking the vessel's formal integration into the fleet.
Ikshak represents a significant stride in India's efforts towards hydrographic excellence and national indigenisation. As the third ship in the Survey Vessel (Large) class, it showcases the Navy's commitment to self-reliance and advanced platform development.
Constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd, Kolkata, Ikshak has over 80% indigenous content. Its dual-role capabilities include humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and as a hospital ship. Notably, Ikshak features dedicated accommodations for women, illustrating the Navy's inclusive advancements.
