The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Mumbai has ruled in favor of a family devastated by a fatal road accident in 2021, ordering the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) to compensate them with over Rs 30 lakh.
The tribunal's chairperson, Monica Arland, determined the accident resulted from the BEST driver's reckless driving, refuting BEST's assertion that the deceased was solely responsible. No evidence supported the claim of negligence on the man's part.
The victim's mother reported severe emotional and financial hardship due to the incident. Acknowledging the evidence, the tribunal mandated compensation and interest from July 2021 until full payment is made.
