The Haryana government has officially requested a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of Aqil Akhter, son of former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, confirmed sources on Thursday. The Centre's acceptance is pending, but the state anticipates a CBI investigation soon.
Akhter, 35, was discovered deceased at his Panchkula residence on October 16. An FIR was filed on October 20, alleging murder and conspiracy, following a complaint by Shamshuddin from Punjab's Malerkotla, who suspected foul play.
Mustafa, dismissing allegations as baseless, pointed to his son's mental health struggles. The case has drawn significant attention, with a Special Investigation Team yet to determine the cause of death. The inquiry awaits the results of a chemical examination of the viscera.
