In a significant move, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has assured support to the family of a female doctor, who allegedly died by suicide in Maharashtra. The incident occurred in Satara district, where the 28-year-old was found hanging in a hotel room, raising serious allegations of harassment.
Gandhi, who spoke to the grieving family over the phone via Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal, promised to mount pressure on the government to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The aim is to ensure a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
The deceased had reportedly left a note on her palm accusing a police officer of rape and another man of mental harassment. Both have since been arrested. The family's demand for justice is further ascribed to concerns about possible tampering with evidence, including allegations of data deletion from the victim's mobile phone posthumously.
