A 24-hour bandh called by the Tripura Civil Society has stirred up differing reactions across the northeastern state. Their demands for implementing the Tiprasa Accord and measures against illegal immigrants spotlighted a political stir, highlighted by contrasting effects across various regions.
In the regions dominated by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, where the Tipra Motha Party holds significant influence, the bandh was greatly observed. Businesses closed down, and transportation ground to a halt, whereas other areas saw minimal interruption. Police reports confirm a peaceful protest with no incidents reported by late morning.
Amid the protest, security has been heightened in sensitive areas to manage any disturbances. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manik Saha criticized the strike's obstructive nature towards development, aligning with other voices that opposed the bandh on grounds unrelated to public interest. The Tiprasa Accord, central to the protests, aims at boosting tribal socio-economic development.
