In response to the economic instability stemming from the West Asia crisis, the South Korean government has announced a significant financial aid package designed to assist the majority of its citizens. Aimed particularly at the lower 70% of income earners, this KRW 6.1 trillion (USD 4.12 billion) initiative seeks to mitigate the escalating impact of rising oil prices, as per a recent Yonhap News Agency report citing Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol.

During an urgent virtual economic meeting with key government officials, Minister Koo highlighted the severe global economic threats posed by the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict. He underscored the government's commitment to tackling supply chain disruptions, leveraging public reserves, and ensuring continued resilience through this period of international uncertainty, which he termed as the most pressing challenge facing the global economy today.

The South Korean National Assembly has also approved a supplementary budget of KRW 26.2 trillion (USD 17.1 billion) to further support these efforts. This decision, approved on April 10 after a rare bipartisan agreement, exemplifies the country's determination to counteract the adverse economic effects of the conflict that, prior to a temporary ceasefire declared by President Trump, showed no clear sign of abating.
