In a recent disclosure, former US President Donald Trump credited his administration's tariff policies for achieving what he termed the largest historical drop in the nation's trade deficit. Trump announced a staggering 55% reduction in this gap, correlating the economic improvement with strong job growth and the broader economic framework under his leadership.
Communicating via Truth Social, Trump highlighted a March jobs report revealing the creation of 178,000 new positions. He celebrated this development and attributed the narrowing trade deficit as a testament to the success of his tariff strategy, further touting the nation's efforts against nuclear threats from Iran.
On Good Friday, Trump had earlier lauded his economic policies for promoting substantial economic gains, noting that 186,000 private-sector jobs had been added in March under his policies. According to Trump, these policies have propelled significant factory construction and onshoring activities, accelerated by tariffs, even as the Trade Deficit saw a remarkable reduction. The job growth exceeded predictions significantly, indicating a strong economic rebound after February's job losses.
