Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has condemned a dramatic shooting near the National Assembly in Belgrade, labeling it a 'terrible terrorist attack.' Vladan Andelkovic, 70, allegedly opened fire, injuring Milan Bogdanovic, a 57-year-old supporter of the government, and set fire to a nearby tent used by government backers, as reported by Russia Today.
The attack, which resulted in Bogdanovic sustaining a gunshot wound to the thigh, prompted an emergency response. Fire crews quickly doused the flames, while police cordoned off the scene and initiated a detailed investigation. Reports indicated that Andelkovic tossed ammunition into the flames before being apprehended. In a public address, Vucic called the incident a deliberate act aimed at instilling fear, classifying it as an attack on individuals and property.
During a video broadcast by Vucic, the suspect expressed suicidal tendencies, revealing, 'I wanted you to kill me because I can no longer live.' President Vucic suggested that Andelkovic, with his background in security forces, was aware of his actions, dismissing any insanity plea. The shooting arrives amid widespread protests against Vucic's administration, sparked by a deadly train station accident last year, further intensifying political tensions. Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar confirmed that Bogdanovic is stable as police continue their inquiry into possible motives linked to the unrest.
