Assault at Perinthalmanna Hospital Sparks Outcry

A serious incident unfolded at a government hospital in Perinthalmanna when four women were arrested for attacking a gynaecologist. The attack, which occurred on Thursday, left the doctor with significant injuries and was allegedly linked to a recent patient's death due to childbirth complications, as reported by the police.

The Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) defended the medical staff, stating that the young woman, who suffered postpartum haemorrhage, was treated promptly and referred to a better-equipped facility. Despite the medical team's best efforts, the woman could not be saved. The association strongly condemned what it termed as a brutal, premeditated assault, confirming the need for strict punishment for the attackers.

The KGMOA further pointed out a systemic issue, highlighting that over 50 government hospitals in the state lack adequate staff for maternity services. They also demanded improvements in infrastructure, including better-equipped operating theatres and consistent staffing, to enhance patient care and avoid future tragedies.
