India is making strides in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB) by integrating traditional and modern medical practices. A new collaborative study involving the Union Ayush Ministry and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) aims to evaluate the role of Ayurveda as a supplementary therapy to existing TB treatments.
The multi-centre research, spearheaded by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in partnership with DBT, will be conducted over 24 months across premier institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, and NEIGRIHMS. The study's objective is to provide scientific evidence on the effectiveness of an Ayurveda regimen alongside standard Anti-Tuberculosis Treatment (ATT).
This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2022, highlighting India's commitment to innovative, integrative, and evidence-based healthcare approaches. With the combined efforts of the Ministry of Ayush and DBT, India aims to enhance patient outcomes and accelerate its mission to eliminate TB by leveraging both traditional and scientific methods.
