Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress leader, issued a strong critique of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, suggesting a covert alliance between the two. Gandhi accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of collaborating with entities that perpetrate attacks on minority groups across India. Addressing an election rally, Gandhi reiterated his claims regarding a BJP-LDF understanding, critiquing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for avoiding the contentious Sabarimala issue during his campaign speeches.
Gandhi pointed to the presence of former CPI(M) leader G Sudhakaran, now contesting as an Independent with United Democratic Front (UDF) backing, as evidence of ideological shifts within the LDF. He argued that Sudhakaran's alignment with the Congress was not opportunistic but a reflection of significant changes within the LDF's core values. Gandhi emphasized the historical rivalry between Congress and the LDF, lamenting the latter's departure from its foundational left principles.
He further alleged that a 'hidden hand' with communal aims was guiding the LDF, creating dissatisfaction among its members. Gandhi criticized Modi for frequently discussing religion and temples outside Kerala while avoiding the Sabarimala issue, hinting at political priorities over genuine concern. He warned of increased minority attacks, citing incidents in Chhattisgarh and Manipur, and accused Vijayan of allying with those responsible for these attacks.
