Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman convened a strategic meeting with banking leaders to address cybersecurity risks linked to advanced AI models, notably Anthropic's Claude Mythos. This high-level gathering emphasized the urgency for banks to fortify their IT systems and protect customer data from potential AI-driven vulnerabilities.
Sitharaman stressed the need for a robust mechanism for real-time threat intelligence sharing among banks and relevant agencies like @IndianCERT to promptly identify and disseminate emerging threats. Banks were advised to immediately report any suspicious activities to authorities, including CERT-In, ensuring close coordination among concerned agencies.
Highlighting the significance of these discussions, particularly amidst fears of AI misuse in exploiting software vulnerabilities, Sitharaman encouraged the Indian Banks' Association to create a coordinated response mechanism. The development of the Claude Mythos AI model by Anthropic underscores the need for vigilance and preparedness across the financial sector, even as Indian systems remain secure.
