Stellantis Considers Selling European Manufacturing Plants Amid Overcapacity

Stellantis NV is evaluating options to address its manufacturing overcapacity in Europe by potentially selling or sharing four factories. According to insiders cited by Bloomberg, these sites are located in Rennes, Madrid, and central Italy.

Negotiations with possible buyers and partners are reportedly underway, with representatives from China's Dongfeng Motor Corp recently touring the Rennes and Madrid facilities, indicating strong international interest. However, Stellantis has refrained from providing an official comment on these speculations.

This development comes as Stellantis announced a halt in car production at its Poissy plant in France. With Chinese automakers like Chery looking to utilize existing production capacities in Europe, the dynamics in the automotive manufacturing landscape are poised for significant shifts.
