On Tuesday, the Defence Ministry took a significant step by finalizing contracts worth nearly Rs 975 crore for the acquisition of vital equipment for the Army's T-72 and T-90 tanks. This advancement promises to improve the tanks' ability to breach minefields, significantly enhancing operational effectiveness.
The contracts were signed in Delhi, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh present. These agreements involve Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Private Limited for the procurement of TRAWL Assembly. This equipment, developed by DRDO, is essential for safely navigating through minefields filled with anti-tank mines and advanced fuses.
Classified as a 'Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)' project, this initiative marks a critical progression in modernizing India's defense infrastructure. The effort supports indigenous industries under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative while generating employment opportunities, particularly for the MSME sector involved in component manufacturing.
