In a bid to rally support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu addressed Telugu Forum members during his visit to Coimbatore. Naidu emphasized the benefits of the proposed delimitation exercise, aiming to allay concerns over potential loss of representation for certain states.
During his address, Naidu questioned opposition criticisms surrounding the lack of logic in their claims, noting the proposed provision for a 50% increase in seats for each state. He underscored the missed opportunity in passing the Women's Reservation Amendment Bill, describing it as a defeat for women rather than the NDA, and called for support for the constitutional amendment.
Following the defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, Naidu defended the necessity for proportional representation and women's reservations. Despite opposition to the Delimitation Bill, Naidu reiterated the need to protect South India's parliamentary share while encouraging the government to uphold its commitment to women's reservations across the country.
