Senior Civic Official Nabbed in Bribery Scandal

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a senior official from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a Rs 42,000 bribe from a contractor, according to an official statement.
Deputy Commissioner Kailas Somnath Gaikwad of the NMMC was apprehended at the civic headquarters, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Dharmaraj Sonke of the ACB's Navi Mumbai unit. Gaikwad reportedly demanded the money to clear dues concerning a bill for work executed in the Airoli division, amounting to approximately Rs 21 lakh.
The ACB confirmed the complaint before conducting the operation. A case has been filed against Gaikwad, and further investigation is ongoing, officials stated.
