Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray has expressed a strong call for the immediate implementation of the Women's Reservation Act, advocating against delaying its enactment due to ongoing discussions on delimitation. Thackeray's stance was brought to forefront by party leader Sanjay Raut through a post on social media platform X.
Thackeray emphasized the urgency of implementing the 33% women's reservation, as it was already passed by Parliament in 2023. In contrast, he suggested that the delimitation - or reorganization of electoral constituencies - should be temporarily put on hold to allow further deliberation for broader national unity, rather than being seen through a political lens.
Echoing opposition concerns, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra criticized the government's approach towards the Bill's execution, accusing it of misleading citizens and compromising democracy. As debates swirled around the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats and reliance on the 2011 Census, Gandhi questioned the clarity and fairness of these amendments, especially regarding OBC representation.
