An accountant from Jharkhand's animal husbandry department has been detained on charges of embezzling Rs 3 crore by manipulating salary accounts, law enforcement announced on Thursday.

The arrest was made on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by Executive Magistrate Md Zafar Hasnat on April 14 at Kotwali police station. According to officer Sanoj Choudhary, the accountant, linked with the Institute of Animal Health and Production in Ranchi's Kanke, reportedly tampered with salary accounts to withdraw the funds.

Investigations revealed that the funds were illicitly withdrawn between the financial years 2023-24 and 2025-26 by inflating salary figures. This incident prompted a statewide probe by Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore after discovering a similar scam in Bokaro. The Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, has emphasized the seriousness of the revealed salary withdrawal frauds, with ongoing investigations leading to further arrests.
