A devastating blast at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district has claimed 17 lives, with four workers succumbing to their injuries recently. The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday, involved a high-pressure steam tube connected to the turbine, resulting in extensive burn injuries to numerous workers.
Authorities have reported that the number of casualties rose with the recent spate of deaths while others are still hospitalized in Raipur and Raigarh. Efforts are underway to provide the best medical care to the injured and communicate with the families of the deceased. Financial assistance and compensation have been announced both by the state and the company.
The Chief Minister has mandated a detailed inquiry led by the Commissioner of the Bilaspur division, with action promised against those accountable. The plant management and opposition parties are at odds over the responsibility for the disaster, highlighting alleged negligence and calling for a judicial inquiry.
