The death toll from a devastating blast at the Vedanta power plant in Chhattisgarh has soared to 20, officials said Wednesday. The explosion left 16 others injured and under medical care in various hospitals.
The disaster, which occurred due to an explosion in a steel tube carrying high-pressure steam, has prompted demands for a judicial inquiry and accountability from the plant management. The opposition Congress has called for an FIR against those responsible and substantial compensation for victims.
In response to the tragedy, Vedanta announced a significant financial relief package for the deceased and injured, while investigations to ascertain the cause of the blast are being conducted by state authorities and the plant's internal team.
