Diplomatic Dialogue: Tensions Over the Strait of Hormuz
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi about the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The discussion highlighted tensions involving the U.S. and Israel, as well as global efforts to resolve disruptions impacting oil shipments and global economy.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi engaged in a telephone conversation focusing on the safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, as confirmed by Russia’s foreign ministry. The call underscored the Strait's strategic relevance and the ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage maritime security.
According to an official release, initiated by Iran, both diplomats deliberated on United Nations discussions concerning the security of navigation in the strait and responses to what was described as U.S. and Israeli hostilities against Iran. The conversation also touched upon multilateral initiatives to reduce regional tension.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov remarked publicly that the strait remains accessible to Russian interests, while contrasting actions were discussed in a recent virtual conference led by British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, where nearly 40 nations explored strategies to counter Iran’s strategic block of this crucial oil corridor.
