Arunachal Pradesh's farmers received a significant boost as the Centre approved the state's full urea requirement of 950 metric tonnes for April. This decision follows urgent pleas from the state's Agriculture Minister, Gabriel D Wangsu, during a ministerial meeting chaired by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Previously, only 100 metric tonnes of urea were allocated via the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), causing concern due to a projected necessity of 950 MT, including a 700 MT carry-over from March. The shortage was critical as Arunachal Pradesh is expanding its oil palm and tea plantations, which increases the demand for fertilisers.
Minister Wangsu expressed gratitude for the timely response, praising Chouhan for ensuring that farmers won't face disruptions as they enter a crucial phase of the agricultural calendar. Officials confirmed steps are in place to distribute the allocated urea seamlessly across the state.
