The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has showcased commendable efficiency in processing applications as evidenced by its March 2026 performance report. The central bank has managed to address 99.9% of the total 24,911 applications within the stipulated timeline under its Citizen's Charter.
Out of a mix of fresh receipts and pending cases at the start of the month, 21,459 applications were processed. While the vast majority adhered to the deadlines, only 31 cases were processed beyond the specified timeline, demonstrating rigorous management even with substantial volumes.
Breakdowns by function revealed that 'Banker to Banks and Governments', and 'Currency Management' primarily accounted for the high application numbers. Most applications, whether under currency management or foreign exchange transactions, were resolved timely. However, a minimal number awaited information from external agents or were still in process, showing proactive steps towards resolving delays.
