South Korea and Indonesia Forge Strategic Energy and Defence Partnership

They emphasized cooperation in energy security and defence projects like the KF-21 fighter jet, aiming to bolster strategic partnership amid global uncertainties.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung engaged in crucial talks with Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto, focusing primarily on energy security and military collaboration. The discussions, held at Seoul's Blue House, underscored efforts to foster cooperation amid ongoing global energy uncertainties.
The two leaders highlighted Indonesia's pivotal role as a supplier of energy resources like LNG and coal, which are vital for South Korean imports. To this end, they announced plans to initiate high-level discussions on energy security and expand public-private partnerships to maintain stable global energy supply chains.
Additionally, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing defence projects, particularly the KF-21 fighter jet development, with a new joint initiative, IF-21, on the horizon. These efforts are accompanied by potential collaborations in other growth sectors such as AI and infrastructure.
