HKTV's Controversial Animal Experiments for Transplant Innovation

Hong Kong Technology Venture Company, owner of the online retailer HKTVmall, is drawing criticism for its recent experiments on animal limbs and heads, which it claims are aimed at advancing transplant science. The company revealed that these body parts were kept viable for hours after separation in pursuit of improving organ transplantation.

The technology-focused initiative demonstrated that detached limbs showed neuromuscular responses for approximately 46 hours, and severed heads maintained brain activity for seven hours, a potential first in the field. This controversial research has sparked backlash from animal rights activists, with organizations like PETA urging the project to cease operations in light of ethical concerns.

Despite the criticism, HKTV remains committed to its four-year endeavor, supported by over 20 researchers, including university academics and medical experts. The firm asserts that technological advancements could revolutionize organ transplants and innovate healthcare, although they acknowledge the uncertainties in future success and fiscal outcomes.
