Assam's Finance Minister, Ajanta Neog, introduced an impressive interim budget of Rs 62,294.78 crore for 2026-27 ahead of upcoming assembly elections. Her announcement emphasized Assam's economic prowess as the fastest-growing state in India, according to the Reserve Bank of India.
Neog sought an approved allocation for the initial operational months, citing a need for Rs 62,29,478.30 lakh to maintain government services seamlessly before the full budget is finalized. Her analysis painted a prosperous picture, with projections of a Rs 10 lakh crore economy by 2028, outpacing Assam's previous goal for 2030.
The budget presentation revealed a striking 113 percent increase in the state's per capita income over five years, from Rs 86,947 in 2020-21 to Rs 1,85,429 in 2025-26, with the Gross State Domestic Product growing by 45 percent, dwarfing the national growth average.
