Indian Energy Exchange Sees Surge in Electricity Trade Volumes
The Indian Energy Exchange reported a 19% increase in electricity trade volume to 13,050 million units for January. Renewable energy certificates traded were down by 37% year-on-year. Meanwhile, significant growth was noted in Day-Ahead Market and Real-Time Electricity Market volumes.

The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) has reported a notable 19% rise in electricity trade volume, reaching 13,050 million units in January. This gain highlights the growing demand for electricity trading within the market.
Despite this increase, the trade of renewable energy certificates (RECs) experienced a 37% drop year-on-year, with a total of 23.91 lakh RECs exchanged throughout the month. The trading sessions for these RECs took place on January 14 and 28, with clearing prices set at Rs 339 and Rs 333, respectively. More trading sessions are scheduled for February 11 and 25.
The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and the Real-Time Electricity Market (RTM) also showed growth, with DAM recording a 2.8% increase to 6,182 million units and RTM seeing a substantial 52.8% rise to 4,638 million units. The IEX Green Market reported an increment of 10.7% in volume, with the average price dropping to Rs 4.06 per unit in January, a 12.5% decrease year-on-year.
