U.S. defense company Anduril Industries has launched a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Sydney for producing undersea drones, termed Ghost Sharks. This move meets the terms of a hefty A$1.7 billion ($1.1 billion) contract with the Australian navy to develop a fleet complementing its existing surface assets.

The facility's aim is to manufacture dozens of these advanced drones, which could potentially be exported to the U.S. and other countries, contingent on government consent. The initial drone has already been completed ahead of schedule, ready for in-water testing, with delivery expected in January.

By 2026, the 7,400 square meter production site is slated to achieve full manufacturing capacity, generating about 150 jobs. Additionally, more than 40 local enterprises will contribute parts and supplies to the operation, bolstering Australia's manufacturing potential in the defense sector.
