The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is propelling toward an ambitious milestone aiming to land humans on the Moon by 2047, as announced by former ISRO Chairman S Somanath. This plan is inspired by the 'Mission 2047' announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aligning with India's centennial Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking with reporters, Somanath emphasized ISRO's strategic roadmap which includes the commencement of the Gaganyaan programme and the success of Chandrayaan 3, which successfully reached the Moon's south pole. He noted the approval of Chandrayaan 4 and 5, along with the goal of establishing an Indian space station.
Somanath highlighted that India aims to capture 10-12% of the global space economy, necessitating advancements in technology and infrastructure. The power of the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 has been enhanced fourfold to support these endeavors. With these innovations, India plans to augment its presence in the global space sector over the next five years.
