A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been lodged in the Delhi High Court aiming to pause or regulate the upcoming film 'The Taj Story'. The petition, put forth by Shakeel Abbas through advocate Shakil Sheikh, claims the movie distorts history, threatening communal harmony and the dignity of India's national heritage.
Filed under Article 226 of the Indian Constitution, the plea urges the court to direct the Union of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to impose safeguards on the film, scheduled for release on October 31, 2025, citing its fabricated and provocative content.
According to the plea, the film's trailer suggests that the Taj Mahal was originally a temple, an assertion claimed to stir communal tension. It accuses producers and directors of promoting divisive ideologies, and the CBFC of granting certification without due diligence, urging the court to prevent potential unrest at this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
