The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced it has sanctioned the addition of 10 new aeromedical evaluation centres. This initiative aims to expedite the medical examination process for pilots and other licensees, significantly boosting capacity for DGCA Class 1, 2, and 3 medical exams.
An official statement highlighted that these new centres will ensure early access to medical facilities for pilots across India. This comes as the DGCA moves to incorporate private aeromedical evaluation facilities for civil aviation medical tests.
Previously, DGCA had empanelled eight centres exclusively for Class 1 initial medical exams. Now, the newly added centres are equipped to handle all types of DGCA medical examinations, including special assessments and age-specific medical evaluations, distributed strategically throughout India, as per the release.
