In a proactive move, Telangana's Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao have instructed officials to prepare for cyclone Montha, ensuring the ongoing paddy procurement process remains undisturbed. Held through a video conference, the meeting with district collectors and senior officials focused on preventing farmer losses due to potential heavy rains.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized the necessity of using tarpaulins to cover already received paddy at procurement centres and urged the acceleration of transporting these stocks to rice mills. Adequate transport arrangements were also highlighted to facilitate stock movement, as noted in an official release.
As Telangana has so far procured a significant amount of paddy, the ministers' directives aim to safeguard the 1,80,452 metric tonnes procured from 22,433 farmers. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh is also bracing for the cyclone's severity, with the state's Disaster Management Authority on high alert for coastal areas.
