In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Delhi Police Special Cell has detained two individuals allegedly linked to ISIS, accused of planning an attack during the high-profile Diwali festival season in the national capital. Additional Commissioner of Police (CP) Special Cell, Pramod Kushwaha, identified the suspects as Adnan and Adnan. Both were reportedly coordinating with a foreign operative presumed to be active along the Syria-Turkey border.

The arrested individuals had carried out surveillance on densely populated areas, including a major shopping mall in South Delhi, intending to strike during Diwali. The operation led to the recovery of a laptop, numerous pen drives, incriminating videos, ISIS propaganda materials, and a flag. Investigators also uncovered electronic components and a wristwatch believed to be part of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) assembly. Among the seized material was a video pledge of allegiance to ISIS.

One suspect, Adnan, had previously been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in June 2024 for online threats. He had been involved in disseminating ISIS propaganda and managing media operations. The second suspect, also named Adnan, whose father is a government official, was captured in Sadik Nagar on October 16. Initial investigations suggest both Adnans managed multiple Instagram accounts to promote extremist content and communicate with international handlers. The Special Cell had been surveilling the duo for months, following related leads in Delhi and Bhopal's Karond region.

The duo's connection with foreign handlers reinforced their intention to launch a terror attack in Delhi during the festive period. The confiscation of critical materials and devices underscores their affiliation with ISIS's extremist ideology. This meticulous operation was led by Inspectors Sunil and Dhiraj, backed by senior Special Cell officers.

Ongoing inquiries aim to uncover further connections and detail the communication network with their overseas handler. (ANI)
