The Indian government is poised to strengthen its defense capabilities by acquiring six fast patrol boats, geared primarily for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. According to the latest Request for Proposal (RFP), these crafts aim to bolster the armed forces' ability to conduct patrolling and intervention operations, including high-speed deployments in challenging water environments.
In a strategic move to support domestic manufacturing, the procurement falls under the 'Buy (Indian-IDDM)' category. This mandates that at least 60% of the vessels' total cost must comprise indigenous content, a notable increase from the minimum 50% initially stipulated. The RFP, issued by the Ministry of Defence, invites proposals from Indian manufacturers, emphasizing a preference for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The Ministry extends an open invitation for technical and commercial proposals, with submissions closing on January 13, 2026. Though accompanied by no financial commitment at this stage, the government retains the right to modify, withdraw, or foreclose the procurement. Special attention will be paid to national security considerations, with disqualifications possible during the bidding process.
