In response to a cyclone warning, fishing operations in Thoothukudi have been halted by local authorities. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the formation of a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is expected to escalate into a cyclone, bringing severe weather conditions along the coast.

The Thoothukudi District Administration and the Fisheries Department have issued a directive advising fishermen to stay onshore. All mechanised boats at the Thoothukudi Fishing Harbour have been instructed not to set sail, while those currently at sea are urged to return immediately. Residents of coastal regions have been cautioned against visiting the seashore and are advised to observe future weather alerts closely.

Continuing heavy rainfall has also caused waterlogging in Thoothukudi and surrounding regions. Forecasts indicate persistent rain across Tamil Nadu, with some districts expected to experience intense downpours until October 25. The Regional Meteorological Centre forewarns of significant rainfall affecting multiple districts on Deepavali, with implications extending to school closures in Chennai.
