Melania Trump made headlines on Friday by announcing an expansion of the White House honey program with the installation of a new beehive designed to mirror the iconic building. This addition marks a continuation of the program that has seen strong growth since its inception in 2009.

The existing beehives have been an integral part of the White House grounds, hosting up to 70,000 bees and producing between 200 to 225 pounds of honey per year. The introduction of the new hive is estimated to increase production by an additional 30 pounds.

Not just a source of honey, the program also plays a vital role in pollinating Michelle Obama's vegetable and flower gardens, benefiting both White House culinary endeavors and community food banks. Supported financially by the Trust for the National Mall, the new hive embodies a collaboration between White House staff and local artisans from Virginia.
