Rescue efforts were extremely challenging as rescue personnel tried to approach amid intermittent explosions. Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes of residents carrying the injured through difficult terrain and collecting remains of victims.
Officials reported around 40 workers were present. Some survivors described the unit as functioning within safety norms, speculating that extreme heat might have triggered the blast. The disaster cast a shadow over the festival, turning festive anticipation into mourning.
