Jennifer Hudson Reflects on Full-Circle 'American Idol' Return

Jennifer Hudson, the multi-talented singer and actor, referred to her return to American Idol as a guest judge as 'insane', marking more than two decades since she first competed on the hit reality show. According to E! News, Hudson, who gained widespread recognition after securing seventh place in the third season, reminisced about the transformative experience during an interview.

'To be on the other side of everything is insane, but it puts how much time has passed into perspective,' she shared. 'I'm like, Wow. Idol was 22 years ago. Dreamgirls was 20 years ago.' Hudson, who later clinched an Academy Award for her performance in Dreamgirls, sees the passage of time as a fortunate development. 'OK, yes, I can return as a judge or mentor on Idol and then be on the production side of Dreamgirls to see someone else get a chance,' she added, as reported by the outlet.

Additionally, Hudson attended the taping of The 51st AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Eddie Murphy, which will be available for streaming on Netflix on May 31. In her continued expansion of creative ventures, Hudson launched The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2022, achieving significant success with its renewal for a fifth season.

Discussing her decision to helm a talk show, Hudson previously spoke with Viola Davis about its significance for her artistic and personal life, as mentioned in E! News. 'People have only gotten to know me through singing songs or playing characters. I felt the talk show gave me space and a place to be just Jennifer, Jenny Kate from the South Side of Chicago,' she stated.

Hudson further emphasized her enthusiasm for engaging with others, expressing, 'I love people. People love to confide in me. I'm a listener, and I'm inspired by hearing other people's stories and perspectives.' She acknowledged her eagerness to learn through interactions with her guests, adding, 'I'm inspired by all of that,' according to E! News.
