The Goa performance of Grammy-winning DJ Black Coffee was abruptly called off, thanks to a revoked NOC citing Good Friday's religious significance. The event, a part of Black Coffee's India tour, faced backlash from the local community and Congress party for insensitivity to Christian sentiments.
The Communidade of Anjuna, a traditional land-holding body, withdrew permission following objections, noting the event coinciding with Holy Week. An assembly amassed outside the venue, as news of the cancellation spread, causing disappointment among attendees.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar criticized the timing of the event, demanding its cancellation and an apology for disrespecting a sacred occasion. The Congress party highlighted that such entertainment was inappropriate during a period of Christian mourning.
